Research Competition-
Office of Slovenians Abroad
Are you interested in Slovenians abroad and around the world and did you research the reality of compatriots living in all four neighbouring countries, as well as many other countries on all continents in your final thesis?
The Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad and Around the World has
announced the 24th prize competition for diploma, master's and doctoral theses in the field of: Slovenians abroad and Slovenians around the world.
The competition will consider works in the period from 1. 1. 2025 to 31. 12. 2025.
The best three works in the field of abroad and three works in the field of emigration will receive a cash prize, namely:
• first prize for each of the areas in the amount of 800 euros,
• second prize in the amount of 600 euros and
• third prize in the amount of 400 euros.
The application deadline is February 20, 2026.

Kapelica Restoration & Memorial Stone project

Pater Darko has, over the last few years, highlighted the need for restoration of the Kaplica. He has expressed his wish for a Memorial Stone to include the names of the dedicated priests and nuns who served at St Raphael’s.
A working group will be formed to raise funds and manage this project, with a completion date for All Souls Day November 2026.

Ta nedelja je 3. adventna nedelja. Pri sv. maši je ljudsko petje.
Ob 5.00 popoldne bo sv. maša v Wollongongu - Figtreeju, v hrvaški cerkvi marije kraljice.
Na božični večer, 24.12., bomo imeli v Figtreeju - Wollongongu, v hrvaški cerkvi zgodnjo božično polnočnico ob 8.00 zvečer. Prosim, označite si datum in uro in se obvestite med seboj. Odkar v Wollongongu nimamo več slovenske cerkve, lahko rečemo, da drugod ne bi dobili take lepe ponudbe kar tako. Bila bi pa velika škoda, da ne bi več praznovali božiča tudi v tem slovenskem občestvu, čeprav se manjša. Dokler in kakor bo mogoče, toda potrudimo se, kar se moremo.
V Canberri - Garranu prihodnjo nedeljo, 21.12., ne bo sv. maše. Sv. maša bo v Canberri samo na božič, 25.12., ob 6.00 zvečer.

Petek, 26.12: Sv. Štefan: sv. maša ob 9.30 dopoldne, Štefanovanje in srečanje v dvorani. Prinesite, prosim, potice in pecivo za skupno mizo.
Pred božičnimi prazniki poskrbimo za bolne in starejše, da bodo prejeli zakramente. Poskrbimo tudi sami za dobro opravljeno sv. spoved, za to, da se spravimo pred bogom in med seboj. Sveto leto, ki se izteka, se mora še posebej poznati v našem življenju. Sv. spoved lahko opravite pred vsako sv. mašo, čez dan pokličite in se dogovorimo.
Čimprej obnovimo naročnino na Misli, darujmo dar za Rafaela in dar v božičnih - Rafaelovih kuvertah. Bodimo velikodušni, saj s temi darovi krijemo zavarovanje naše cerkve, dvorane (public liability insurance) in še druge izdatke.
Naše glasilo Rafael praznuje prihodnje leto junija svojo 60-letnico – takrat je izšla prva številka. Ob tej obletnici bi radi izdali jubilejno številko Rafaela, zato vas vabim, da pripravimo prispevke, spomine, pričevanja in predloge.
Osmrtnica (Death Notice)
On Friday, 5.12.2025, at the Catholic Care - Lewisham Nursing Home in Lewisham, NSW, FRANCI RAJK, aged 77, brother of + Barica Brodnik, + Ivanka Šimec and priest Lojze Rajk , passed away. He was born in Bojanja vas in the parish of Radovica. The day and time of the Holy Mass and funeral have not yet been arranged.

Voice of Slovenian Australians Sydney (VOSA) has had an action-packed and dynamic first half of the year, beginning with the exciting opening of our new studios in Merrylands and the celebration of our one-year anniversary in early March. The team has been consistently delivering high-quality weekly programs that blend news, sport, engaging interviews, and a healthy dose of laughter and entertainment. VOSA Sydney has evolved into more than just a radio program — it has become a central slovenian hub for storytelling, cultural exchange, and community connection. The platform embodies the values of community spirit, positivity and inclusiveness, keeping listeners informed, engaged, and smiling. The program has hosted a range of guests, showcasing the diverse talents and unique perspectives within the Australian Slovenian community. VOSA Sydney is also a great supporter of all Slovenian organisations across NSW and ACT, always present to share a story, some laughter, and highlight talent and achievements within the community, helping to strengthen connections and celebrate our shared heritage.
Showcasing the stories and passions of Slovenians, VOSA Sydney has welcomed several guests and shared engaging interviews—many in collaboration with our friends at The Slovenian Buzz Melbourne. Through these stories, VOSA Sydney reflect and celebrate the heart and soul of the community. VOSA Sydney’s presence at community events serve as a powerful reminder of the richness of our culture and the pivotal moments in history that paved the way for the independent, beautiful, and free Slovenia we know and cherish today.
In a celebration of culture and connection, our very own Andrew Šuber and Jordan Covich were invited by Natasha Kapusin, President of the Slovenian Australian Association Canberra, alongside 14 other attendees, to participate in the Dobrodošli Doma event in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. Over the course of three days, they attended one of the largest global gatherings of Slovenians, held in the border towns of Nova Gorica and Gorizia — the European Capital of Culture for 2025. Full credit to the Slovenian Club Canberra, especially Natasha Kapusin, for her excellent organisational efforts of the group, and to the Office of Slovenians Abroad for their efforts in bringing together Slovenians from around the globe and for organising such an extraordinary event. Upon arrival home, Andrew and Jordan shared stories and highlights from their trip, encouraging other Slovenian Australians to take part in future gatherings.
Throughout the first half of the year, we’ve also had the pleasure of interviewing a wide range of community members that are quite well known for their commitment and service to Slovenian organisations across Sydney. Collaboration is a key focus for our team and we have been fortunate to exchange and share Slovenian stories through our strong professional relationship with The Slovenian Buzz Melbourne, hosted by Lenti Lenko and Anamarija Butinar.
VOSA Sydney also shines a spotlight on major events, must-see attractions, notable destinations, and cultural celebrations taking place in Slovenia each week during the bar kafe segment. These updates keep listeners connected to what's happening back home—especially during the summer months, when Slovenia comes alive with festivals and local traditions.In addition, segments like Story of the Week and Word of the Week offer listeners the chance to expand their Slovenian vocabulary and learn about unique places and experiences they may not have yet encountered, enriching both their language skills and cultural understanding. VOSA Sydney have recently been fortunate to have received contributions from listeners for word of the week, so if you or someone you know has a Slovenian word we haven’t aired yet, we want to hear from you.
To keep the Slovenian community connected to its culture, homeland and informed about local happenings, VOSA Sydney has continued to expand its reach beyond the airwaves, embracing new ways to share stories, traditions, and community updates. In April, we launched a new weekly email service that shares community notices from Slovenian organisations across NSW and ACT. The newsletter also features key updates, event recaps, photos, and special stories, to keep everyone informed and engaged. Now running for nearly six months, the service has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback and heartfelt appreciation. VOSA Sydney is also very proud to announce another exciting new development, our very own sports reporter, Zac Limare, has launched his own radio program on our broadcasting station 89.3 2GLF. The Rugby League Round Table airs every Sunday from 8am-10am. Joined by fellow league lover Joseph Pollicina these two rugby league fanatics dive into all the action.
