CLUB COMMITTEE UPDATE
- Following the success of the New Year’s Eve Smorgasbord Dinner/ Dance, the committee would like to thank Mimi Bo?ani?, Angelca Dodi?, Lenka Ivan?i? and Wies?awa Le¹ for their help with the food preparation, Ivanka Ivan?i? and Olga Poklar for baking their delicious crostolli & potica, and to Danilo Dodi?, Veronika Ferfolja, Rosemary Poklar, Daniel Scandrett-Smith, Katica Segulin and Paula Simionato for their help with the preparations and their efforts on the night.

- Thanks also go to Angelakis Bros., Standom Smallgoods, Liquorland (Ingle Farm), Cilka Petrena and Sonja Kova?evi? for their generous donations for the New Year’s Eve lottery. Over $450 was raised, with a further $350 raised from the doll lottery drawn on the same night. Thank you to Jana Mezek for making and donating the dolls in Slovenian national costume for the special lottery.

- The club committee would like to thank Franc Lavrenèiè for volunteering to take out the club’s rubbish bins for council pick-up every week.

- The committee would like to thank Ivan Benc for installing a sensor light above the member’s clubroom entrance.

- The committee would like to thank ©tefka Kotnik for sponsoring the Sv ©tefan Bocce Competition played at the Slovenian Club on 27/12/98.

- A submission to the City of Charles Sturt Council to reduce the club’s rates by half has proven successful, providing an annual saving of $2340. A similar application to exempt the club from paying land tax was unsuccessful on the grounds that the Club’s constitution discriminates against those of a non-Slovenian background.
- Garry Case Ballroom Dancing has confirmed 8 Saturday-night hall bookings for 1999.

- Prices have been sought for the expansion of the Slovenian Club hall dance floor to attract further external clients. A parquetry border around the existing floor will
increase the flexibility of the hall facilities, maintaining an intimate atmosphere for smaller groups when required. Works to the dance floor are scheduled to be undertaken early February.

- The club committee has negotiated a 3-year contract with the Adelaide Country Music Club Inc. ‘Country Music’ approached the Slovenian Club last December regarding the use of the Slovenian Club premises as a base for their monthly events. ‘Country Music’ is to hold dances with live music in the Slovenian Club hall on the first Sunday of every month between 12.00noon and 5.00pm. Slovenian Club members are welcome to attend the events at ‘Country Music’ member’s prices. Likewise, Adelaide Country Music Club members are welcome to partake of the Slovenian Club’s Sunday dinner from 5.30pm-6.30pm.

Smoke Free Dining has found its way to the Slovenian Club. As from the 4 January 1999 and in compliance with the SA Tobacco Products Regulation Act, no smoking is allowed in the clubrooms whilst meals are being served. This is generally between 5.30pm-7.00pm every Sunday, however the rule also applies during lunch barbecues and dinner dances (until plates are cleared away).
